FAQ

Q: Will the AquaLux 1600 towel be able to dry a whole car?

A. Yes, AquaLux 1600 Towel is highly absorbent allowing the quick and easy drying of a whole vehicle. In fact it can comfortably dry 1 full car, and potentially up to 2 small cars, especially if the vehicles are already sheet-rinsed well and you manage the towel effectively. For a large vehicle such as a SUV or van, it can dry 1 vehicle if wrung out once midway.

Q: What does 1600 GSM mean?

GSM (grams per square metre) is a measurement used to measure the density of a microfibre cloth. The higher the GSM, the softer and more absorbent the cloth will be. Consequently the extremely high 1600 GSM microfibre material makes it the ultimate solution for safe, scratch-free, ultra absorbent drying.

Q: Whats the difference between the AquaLux 1600 and AquaLux 1200 drying towels?

A: The AquaLux 1200 is a 1200 GSM drying towel with a dimension of 90cm x 60cm. The AquaLux 1600 is a 1600 GSM drying towel with a dimension of 80cm x 50cm.

For those that want maximum coverage and easier drying of roofs, bonnets and full panels in one pass, we recommend the AquaLux 1200. It is a great balance of softness and efficiency.

For those that prefer a thicker, softer feel for ultra-delicate paintwork and more control in tight areas or curved bodywork we recommend the AquaLux 1600. The AquaLux 1600 is for those that want the premium drying experience where comfort and touch matter most. The 1600 GSM towel feels denser and more luxurious and hence ideal for precision work or high-end detailing.

Q: Why do you not stock cheaper drying towels with a lesser GSM than 1200?

A: The GSM (grams per square meter) rating of a drying towel directly affects its absorbency, softness, and safety on paintwork. Towels with less than 1200
GSM are typically not ideal for drying cars and hence we do not manufacture or stock them for the following reasons:

Less Absorbency:

A towel below 1200 GSM, hold less water, meaning you need more passes to dry a panel. This means you may have to wring out the towel more often and streaking is more likely, especially on dark or glossy paints

Increased Risk of Paint Marring

Lower GSM towels are thinner and less cushioned and hence without plush fibres to lift water and dirt safely, micro-scratches and swirl marks are more likely, especially on soft clear coats.

More Drag and Friction

Lightweight towels don’t glide as easily over paint. This can lead to tugging, especially on large panels or curved surfaces. Heavier towels like the AquaLux 1200 and AquaLux 1600 use their weight and fibre depth to lift water with almost no pressure.

Shorter Lifespan

Towels with lower GSM generally break down faster, especially after repeated washes. High GSM microfibre is more durable, better constructed and built for repeated detailing.

While drying towels with less than 1200 GSM
towels can work in budget or utility settings, they aren’t ideal for safe, efficient car drying especially for DIY enthusiasts or professional
detailers.

Q: Is drying my vehicle after washing necessary, can I not just let it air dry?

A: Yes. If you leave your vehicle to air dry, the water will evaporate off and deposit mineral impurities typically found in tap water all over your paintwork. This will leave what's commonly termed as 'water spots' These are unpleasant to look at and typically need polishing out. Hence to ensure this doesn't happen it's important to dry your vehicle as quickly and efficiently as possible.
